Detail from Serenity
Serenity continuously projects light down on the wall and up through the glass. Once viewer approaches the piece, a sensor picks up the motion and turns the white lights off and red LEDs on from underneath the glass directly below all the speakers. Simultaneously, the speaker above the glass earphones plays a 12-second excerpt by Vivaldi. The red lights stay on as long as the viewer is present. The piece resets 15 seconds after the viewer walks away from the sculpture.

In
this exhibition, the artist utilizes light to intensify the emotional
sensation which is present thoughout time. We are bombarded
by choices and
are hindered by confrontations of our current emotions. The
work changes as one's emotions change with experiences. Whether
it is the
presence of one's body, interrupting a sublime state, or a standardized
oscillation of viewpoints as in Serenity,
1999. Serenity constantly projects light down onto
the wall and up through the glass. A sensor detects an approaching
viewer's motion and turns the white lights off and red LEDs
on, from underneath
the
glass directly below all the speakers. Simultaneously, the
speaker above the glass earphones plays a 12-second classical excerpt
by Antonio
Vivaldi. The red lights stay on as long as the viewer is near
the artwork. The sculpture then resets 15 seconds after the viewer
departs.
